What is Counseling?

At its core, counseling is about wellness. When we're well, we feel calm, centered, and balanced. Even in the midst of daily challenges, we feel capable of handling whatever comes our way. When we're not doing well, we may feel anxious, stressed-out, overwhelmed, or out of balance.

Counseling can put us back in touch with our strengths -- the very skills that may feel out of reach when life gets us down. Counseling can also offer an opportunity to learn new skills, new ways of seeing things, and can help us to develop a plan for getting where we want to go in life.

Everyone needs a little help now and then. While many of us have someone in our lives who can be a sounding board when we need to talk, sometimes it's hard to find a friend or loved one who can set aside their own needs, and listen deeply enough to help us get to the heart of the matter. A counselor can offer a safe, confidential space in which to explore our most vulnerable thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment.
